At first glance Moorland may not look like much with its soft color palette and its quiet aura. However, the designer of Camel Up, has made something here that brings a certain warmth to your table.

In Moorland you will be managing a fragile ecosystem by linking waterways and distributing the various resources to keep it all alive. Now, you may be thinking, "A tile laying game? Seen it before." Humor me and stick around.

Yes, you'll be placing tiles from a drafted pool each round, and you'll be picking a resource to place on various spots in your moor, but what made this one stand out was the way these resources are used.

To place a card with a you must have all it's resources. Easy enough. Some will require resources to go away, others will take root (stay on the card) and earn points for the end, but any that did neither of those two things will FLOAT AWAY.

This mechanic was so intriguing to me. Not only am I using these resources to build up my little moor, but I need to take into account where they will float to in order to make more waterways. If there aren't enough spaces on a spot the plants (resources) will be discarded gaining me negative points at end game.

It's a lovely little thinking puzzle with a modular board to give you plenty of challenges with repeated plays. The balance of gaining animals, plants, water striders for majority scoring, and managing the resources to maximize their use is a welcome blend of warmth and tension. While it may not have the deepest strategies or craziest moments in tabletop gaming, it definitely is worth a visit to the world of Moorland.
